Synopsis

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of T de Teatre, the company is bringing back to the stage Delicades, a story of stories, some neither fragile nor delicate. They are seemingly unrelated fragments, but they form a universe that elicits smiles and emotions.

The show may have premiered over a decade ago, but it has no expiration date and still moves and entertains audiences. It was T de Teatre’s first collaboration with Pamplona playwright Alfredo Sanzol. It is not surprising that they came into contact, since Sanzol was particularly interested in staging short fictions, just as T de Teatre’s Catalan actresses had done in their first productions, including Petits contes misògins (1991) y Homes! (1994). Taking that same kaleidoscopic structure as a base, Sanzol wrote a comedy full of poetry, almost twenty stories that were born from the memories of his childhood, lived among grandmothers and aunts. Many of these stories are set during the Spanish Civil War and post-war period.

Constructed with fragments and pieces, these apparently unrelated elements nonetheless configure a universe in which a rose bush that was dead suddenly resuscitates. A seamstress fixes a crucifix to the wall with cement to keep militiamen from taking it away. A father wants to friend his daughter on Facebook. Sisters say goodbye to their brother who is going to war. A painter tries with all her heart to sell a painting. A woman needs the heroic help of her neighbors to kill a mouse. Two cattle traders discover that their assistant considers them to be dangerously intellectual. A percussionist from a military band gives a cymbal concert. A soldier sends a male photographer friend to his girlfriend’s house to photograph her nude. A grandmother tells her grandson the story of Saint Casilda, who turned roses into bread…
